Pirate Band Members Honored as Texas Music Scholars

Lytle HS Band Students Given Statewide Music Award

Three members of the Pirate Band were honored as Texas Music Scholars at the band’s Spring Concert on May 3, 2018.  The students receiving this honor were

Patrick Garcia (Senior)

Eddie Morfin (Sophomore)

Victoria Simmons (Senior)

They were nominated for this honor by Mr. Mark Fender, and the award was given by the Texas Music Educators Association. Last year, out of all the students statewide that participate in band, choir and orchestra, fewer than 2,100 students received this award.

This award is given to students who have exhibited outstanding qualities in scholastic merit, musicianship and citizenship in their school and community during the 2017-2018 school year.

The specific requirements to receive this award include

·     Maintaining an overall “A” average

·     Being selected as a member of the All-Region Band (or Choir or Orchestra)

·     Performing a solo chosen from the most difficult list of UIL solos

JH Solo and Ensemble Results

This past Friday, we hosted a Solo and Ensemble competition for our students. Thirty-three events earned a 1st Division, 5 events earned a 2nd Division, and only 1 earned a 3rd Division.  Mr. Fender and I are proud of the hard work our students did in preparation for this contest.  This is the only contest in which our students do the bulk of the work themselves.  Please join us for our spring concert coming up on Monday, May 21st at 7 pm in the High School Auditorium.

Showcase visitor, James Miller had this to say, "We had a great time. To see all the hard work everyone put in to all the projects was great. I even learned of a few programs that Lytle offers that I had no idea. I am a plumber and I learned of the plumbers program offered. The robotics club and all of the computer related programs are great. Thank you to all and the hard work put into the showcase!"

Band UIL Solo & Ensemble results

On Saturday, eight LHS Band members traveled to Southwest HS to represent Lytle in the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest. The students had worked hard to prepare and did a great job with all events receiving either 1st or 2nd division ratings.
Receiving 1st Division ratings were
Emelia Garcia (Freshman)
Eddie Morfin (Sophomore)
Victoria Simmons (Senior)
Patrick Garcia (Senior)
And a flute quartet composed of Freshmen Emma Polomsky and Emelia Garcia, Sophomore Juanita Saldana, and Senior Samantha Perez.

In addition to receiving 1st Division ratings, the solos by Eddie, Victoria and Patrick and the flute quartet all met the additional requirements to advance to the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest in May.

Congratulations to all our Solo & Ensemble participants, and good luck to our 7 State Qualifiers!
