Pirate Baseball - Bi-District Champions

Lytle 4, Pleasanton 2

PIRATE BASEBALL traveled to Pleasanton last night for their 1st round playoff game and defeated Pleasanton 4 – 2.  Lytle scored 4 runs on 6 hits.  Jared Martinez pitched the entire game and threw well. 

The Pirates scored 1st in the 3rd inning on a walk from Caleb Carrillo, a hit from Joel Guerrero and an errant throw.  In the 5th inning Caleb Carrillo singled to left, Joel Guerrero was hit by the pitch and Parker Redding singled to left scoring Carrillo.  Adan Ayala drove in 2 more runs with a triple over the center fielder’s head.

Highlights:  Joel Guerrero was 2 – 2 at the plate with a walk and hit by pitch.  Adan Ayala was 1 – 4 with 2 RBI’s.  The game ended on a nice over the shoulder diving catch by Logan Wilson.

2nd round opponent:  Orange Grove.  We will be playing a 3 game series on Friday & Saturday of next week.  Details will come later.

Pirate Baseball captures 2nd place --- Playoff Update

Lytle 4, Crystal City 2

PIRATE BASEBALL traveled to Pearsall on Friday to match up with Crystal City for a 2nd place playoff.  The Pirates jumped out to an early 2 – 0 lead and held on the rest of the way.  Jared Martinez threw a complete game allowing 2 unearned runs.  Javier Garcia was 2 for 3 at the plate.  There were several fine defensive plays made by Parker Redding, Logan Wilson and Caleb Carrillo. 

A special thanks to the large crowd in attendance.  Your presence was felt.

BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFF ARRANGEMENTS

Lytle Baseball VS Devine

PIRATE BASEBALL played host to Devine on Tuesday.  The Pirates came into the game trailing Devine by 1 game for a chance at a 1st place finish.  Unfortunately, we did not play well enough.  Joel Guerrero pitched well for the Pirates.  Joel was relieved by Caleb Carrillo in the 7th inning.  Highlights included Logan Wilson’s 3 for 3 performance at the plate along with a nice diving play to his left. 

The Pirates will play tomorrow in Pearsall for 2nd place versus Crystal City at 7:30 in Pearsall.

District Record:  5 – 3

Lytle Baseball VS Pearsall

PIRATE BASEBALL traveled to Pearsall Friday night and won an exciting game.  With 1 out in the top of the 7th inning, AJ Reyna singled in the winning run.  Jared Martinez was the winning pitcher throwing a 2 – hit shutout.  The Pirates played great defense throughout with many nice plays by Caleb Carrillo and Logan Wilson.

Tuesday’s game this week is versus Devine at home.  The Pirates trail Devine by one game and are one game ahead of Crystal City.  So, either way, the Pirates will be playing one more game at the conclusion of the season for seeding purposes.

District Record:  5 – 2

Overall Record:  19 - 6

PIRATE BASEBALL traveled to Crystal City on Tuesday.  The Pirates led 7 – 4 in the 7th inning.  Crystal City rattled off 6 hits in the bottom of the 7th to defeat us 8 – 7.  It was a difficult way to lose but “difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations”. 

District Record:  4 – 2

PIRATE BASEBALL  hosted the Carrizo Springs Wildcats on Friday.  The Pirates were led by great pitching from Jared Martinez and Joel Guerrero.  Offensively, Caleb Carrillo was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.  With the victory, the Pirates secured a playoff spot.

District Record:  4 – 1

PIRATE BASEBALL traveled to LaVernia on Friday.  The Pirates jumped to an early lead on hits by Logan Wilson and an RBI single by Adan Ayala.  Too many early walks hurt as the Bears capitalized.  LaVernia held us off the rest of the night.  Pitchers were Adan Ayala, Caleb Carrillo, and Joel Guerrero.  Logan Wilson finished with 2 hits.

PIRATE BASEBALL travelled to Devine last night for the final game of the 1st round of district play.  The Pirates jumped to an early 1 – 0 lead on singles by Logan Wilson and Joel Guerrero in the 1st inning.  Unfortunately, this was the only lead of the game for the Pirates.  We were simply outplayed the rest of the night.   Jared Martinez started the game on the mound, he was relieved by Logan Wilson in the 3rd and Joel Guerrero in the 5th. 

District Record:  3 – 1

Overall Record:  17 - 4

Lytle Baseball Close Victory over Pearsall

PIRATE BASEBALL defeated the Pearsall Mavericks on Thursday in a thrilling come from behind win.  The Pirates took an early lead on a 2-out double by Adan Ayala.  The Mavericks answered back with a 3-run homerun in the top of the 6th to take a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the 6th, John DeRay squeezed in the tying run and AJ Reyna squeezed in the winning run as the Pirates defeated the Mavericks 5 – 4.  Joel Guerrero was the starting pitcher.  Jared Martinez relieved him in the 6th and got the win.  Jack Mills had 2 hits.

Varsity Baseball Spring Break Results - Dilley, Cotulla

LYTLE VARSITY BASEBALL played 3 games over Spring Break.  The Pirates received great pitching from Logan Wilson on Tuesday in Dilley to secure a 9 – 5 victory.  Saturday, the Pirates hosted the Cotulla Cowboys for a double header and rattled off 26 hits.  Winning pitchers were Jared Martinez in game 1 and Chris Castillo in game 2.

The Pirates play host to the D’Hanis Cowboys tomorrow in a JV/Varsity matchup at 4:30 and 7:00 pm in Lytle.

Baseball Team Results from Popeye Tournament in Crystal City

LYTLE BASEBALL travelled to the Popeye Tournament in Crystal City yesterday. 

Highlights:

·        Jared Martinez picked up 2 wins on the mound as the Pirates run-ruled LaPryor in game 1.  Jared threw 5 scoreless innings of relief in game 2.

·        The Pirates rattled off 10 hits versus LaPryor and 6 more against Legacy.

·        A beautiful over-the-shoulder catch by Cameron Babin in left and a sliding grab by Logan Wilson at 2nd base.

·        We fell behind 5 – 0 against Legacy in the 2nd game but came back and took the lead on a single up the middle by Jared Martinez followed by a 3 – run HOMERUN by Adan Ayala in the 4th inning.

JV Baseball Beats Devine

Last night the JV Baseball team played Devine JV 2 and had good pitching performances by Gerardo Reyes, Mark Cantu, and Judel Aldana-Perez.  George Correa also went 2-2 at the plate.
