I can’t tell you again how proud I am of this group of ladies that have worked so hard since day one. As hard as it is to close out another portion of our season, I am pleased to announce that Katelin VanDong will be competing at the THSWPA State meet for the third year in a row! We will travel to Waco, TX over the break to compete on March 17. Please do not forget to congratulate these young ladies for all their efforts. I couldn’t have asked for a better season!

Have a terrific Tuesday and GO PIRATES!

Please make sure to congratulate these wonderful young ladies when you see them. This season has been a learning experience for me and a challenge for my athletes, but I am extremely proud of this season’s turnout. With a heavy heart and a portion of our season coming to a close, I want to thank all the coaches, parents and staff who have come out on several occasions to support our lifters. It means so much more to these girls than they are able to express.

Have a wonderful Wednesday and GO PIRATES!

Brooks Academy and Poteet Powerlifting Meets

Last weekend, your Pirate Powerlifters traveled to San Antonio Brooks Academy to compete in the annual Battle of the Beast against 300+ lifters. This meet was definitely a mental challenge for our lifters, due to time strains and technical difficulties on the platform. Impatience, frustration and exhaustion were heavily present in our kiddos. Despite all odds, we managed to walk away with three medals on the girls’ side.

1st place – Katelin Van Dong in the 198.5 weight class with a total of 1,040lbs

2nd place – Monique Covarrubias in the 114.5 weight class with a total of 600lbs

2nd place - Doralicia Patlan in the 97.5 weight class with a total of 540lbs

This past Saturday, we traveled to Poteet to compete in their annual meet. We lifted against schools from the area including Natalia, Pleasanton, Brooks Academy and Somerset. Coming out from an inconsistent practice week, we were extremely thrilled with the awards we managed to walk away with.

Boys

2nd place – Quen Syma in the 132 weight class with a total of 680lbs

2nd place – David Ortega in the 148 weight class with a total of 980lbs

2nd place – Joseph Pere in the 181 weight class with a total of 1,300lbs

3rd place – Juan Colmenero in the 198 weight class with a total of 1,115lbs

4th place – Garret Ralph in the 165 weight class with a total of 1,040lbs

Girls

2nd – Monique Covarrubias in the 114.5 weight class with a total of 590lbs

4th place – Irene Maldonado in the 123.5 weight class with a total of 515lbs

4th place – Emili Oliver in the 198.5 weight class with a total of 580lbs

4th place – Ariatna Gonzales in the 181.5 weight class with a total 585lbs

Once again, these kids have continued to impress me with their determination and drive to compete. I couldn’t ask for a better group of kids to work with. February 3rd we travel to Somerset as we continue our journey to Regionals. Hope to see some Lytle support out there!
