Lytle Softball Bi-District Playoff Series 4/28 (Lytle vs Cuero)

This past weekend, your Lady Pirates softball team traveled to Alice on Saturday to face off against the Cuero Lady Gobblers in Game 2 of the playoff series; with a possible Game 3 if needed immediately following.

Unfortunately, it may have been the long 2 1/2 hour bus ride that somehow we couldn't get our feet underneath us the entire game, as your Lady Pirates fell to the Lady Gobblers, 18-1; which put an end to our season.

From the get go, Cuero got off to an early 6-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning where they didn't seem to let off the gas peddle any time throughout the game. With an accumulation of 10+ errors on the day, it's tough to come back from a deficit of against a state powerhouse team.

Our bats did come alive in the bottom of the 4th inning, when we were able to bring a run across to cut the lead to 9-1, when Jalyn Aguinaga started us off with a single to left, then Mariah Amador with a beautiful single up the middle which allowed Jalyn to safely make it into 3rd base. That gave Shyane Barnhill an opportunity, as she hit a line drive shot to center field scoring Aguinaga for the 1st and only run of the ball game for the Lady Pirates.

With the ups and downs, adversity faced, and numerous mountains that had to be climbed this year, it turned out to be a very successful season for our program.

It's tough losing a core group (6 seniors) of your team heading into the following season, but with the exposure multiple underclassmen got to witness and be a part of this season, it sets us up for something special for next year! It won't be seen as a rebuilding year, but a reloading year heading into the Spring of 2019.

Thanks to y'all for the continued support this season, and be sure to congratulate this fine young ladies on a remarkable season.

Lytle Softball VS Cuero - Bi-District Game 1 Recap

Last night began the journey towards a State Championship for your Lady Pirates!

They traveled to Judson HS to take on the Cuero Lady Gobblers in 1st round, Bi-District action of the Texas High School Softball State Playoffs.

As the game kicked off, it was a pitcher's duel through 3 innings, as Precious Carrillo held her own against a tough Cuero lineup, sealing 3 K's and allowing only 3 hits. The defense had built a wall behind her allowing the girls to hang in there with the #4 ranked team in the state in 4A; it was 0-0 heading into the top of the 4th.

Knowing what kind of speed and movement the pitcher from Cuero was bringing, the Lady Pirates had a tough time catching up to the 65mph rise ball, along with a nasty 43mph change up.

As the top of the 4th inning got going, a miscommunication play and 2 errors in the top half of the 4th allowed Cuero to bring across 3 runs, which gave them the lead 3-0.

When the Lady Pirates came up to bat next, there was life brought back into them as Jalyn Aguinaga scorched down the 1st base line beating out a throw and a bobbled handle by the 1st baseman to lead things off.

Mariah Amador then laid down a beautiful sac bunt to move Jalyn over, but also Amador was safe at 1st.

This allowed Shyane Barnhill to finally get the barrel on the ball and gain an RBI single to left field.

The score was 3-1, Cuero heading into the top of the 5th inning.

Throughout the remaining 3 innings, your Lady Pirates accumulated for 5 more errors, and 7 more team strikeouts at the plate, which allowed Cuero to finish the game off scoring 6 unanswered runs and seal the game for them 9-1, gaining 1-0 lead in the series.

Game 2 will be tomorrow (Saturday, April 28) in Alice at 5:30pm, with a possible Game 3 if necessary 30 minutes after Game 2.

Lytle Softball VS Javelinas in Crystal City

Last night your Lady Pirates traveled to Crystal City to face off against the Javelinas.

With playoff implications looming in the air, the energy was high, each player fueled the fire from the dugout out onto the field, and the Lady Pirates struck early and often to secure its 3rd straight win, 11-4 over CC heading into the final regular season game on Friday vs. Pearsall.

With the win, the Lady Pirates move to 13-9 on the season and 5-2 in district.

Also, last night the Pirates received some huge help from crosstown rival, Devine, as the Lady Arabians upset Pearsall 4-1, which caused a huge shakeup in the standings.

With Devine's win, that put Pearsall at 6-1 in district, and with the final regular season game coming up on Friday in Pearsall, your Lady Pirates have a shot to become Co-District Champions, and also are seeking to become a #1 seed heading into the playoffs.

Lytle Softball VS Devine 4-3-18

Last night your Lytle Lady Pirates traveled over to crosstown rival, Devine to begin the 2nd round of district play.

It was a very important game for both teams as they are both vying for a high playoff seed and a possible share of the district title heading into the final 4 games of the season.

Once the game got rolling, there was no looking back for the Lady Pirates, as they got started off quickly in the top of the 1st inning picking up a 4-0 lead after Shyane Barnhill's 3-run home run!

Barnhill was also solid in the circle for the Pirates the entire night, as she gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, with 5 K's.

Throughout the rest of the game, energy continued to fuel Lytle as they competed inning after inning, as they never really let off the gas pedal.

Devine was able to bring in 2 runs, 1 in the bottom of the 3rd, and 1 in the bottom of the 4th. But that's all the damage that had been done.

Lytle continued to be aggressive offensively, and totaled 22 hits on the night tallying 18 runs.

Precious Carrillo led all hitters with 4 hits, along with Barnhill, Amber Flores, and Eleni Keith adding 3 hits a piece.

Final Score:

Lytle - 18

Devine - 2

The Lady Pirates now improve to 12-9 Overall, 3-2 in District.

The Lady Pirates will now have a long stretch off due to this Friday being our open date, and then STAAR testing going on next week; they will resume action on the field vs. Carrizo Springs (Parent's Night) next Friday, April 13, with the JV kicking things off at 5pm, followed by Varsity at 7pm.

Lytle Softball VS Crystal City 3-26-18

Your Lady Pirates faced off against the Javelinas from Crystal City last night for our 3rd district game of the season.

It was action-packed from the first pitch to the last as both teams battled and fought for runs and outs to try to keep momentum on their sides.
Crystal City got out to an early 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 2nd, but Lytle struck back with 3 runs of their own taking us into the 3rd inning up 3-2!
As the game continued on, Crystal City seemed to have control over the next 2 innings as they took a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th inning.
But Lytle sure didn't go down quietly!
Every player contributed towards fueling energy, excitement, and determination, and in the bottom of the 5th inning, the bats exploded as the Pirates gained 6 runs on 9 hits, taking control of the game and shifting momentum back in our favor 9-7.
Precious Carrillo finished strong in the circle for the Pirates as she had back to back 1-2-3 innings to complete the game.
Jalyn Aguinaga, Jahzlyn Aguinaga, Sam Dear, and Eleni Keith all accounted for 3 hits each.

It was a very strong, hard fought and earned victory last night for your Lady Pirates!

Lytle- 9
Crystal City- 7

Overall record: 11-8
District record: 2-1

Dilley Softball Tournament

Over the weekend the Lady Pirates traveled to Dilley to participate in the 15th Annual Dilley Wolves Softball Tournament. Over the course of 5 games, there were outstanding performances all around from each individual that turned into favorable team outcomes. We started the weekend off on Friday with 3 games against Crystal City (won 6-5), Cotulla (won 11-1), and finished off the day vs. Poth (won 5-2). Throughout the duration of those 3 games, the team accounted for 0 errors, which has been our nemesis for the 1st half of the season, and accounted for 22 runs scored! This gave us momentum heading into the final day of the tourney (Saturday). Facing off vs. Floresville for a chance to advance to the Championship Game, the ladies continued right where they left to begin an overcast and misty day with another strong performance and a win, 9-2. Shyane Barnhill was on top of her game throughout the weekend on the mound for the Pirates, and also helped herself out accounting for 2 back-to-back home runs in the semi-final game. Sam Dear was a wall at the short stop position along with being hot at the plate easily accumulating a weekend batting average of over .450, along with Eleni Keith making great efforts in doing everything she could to get every ball thrown her way at 1st base. These 3 fantastic ladies earned All-Tourney.
Heading into the final game of the tournament, the championship game vs. Somerset, Lytle got off to a quick start gaining the lead 4-0 heading into the 3rd inning, but errors, miscommunication, and energy seemed to be the difference as the Bulldogs defeated the Pirates 9-4.

With the Lady Pirates finishing 2nd place overall, this weekend proved to show what our potential could be and something we needed prior to us beginning our district schedule next week (03/13) against Devine.

We continue to face another obstacle that we can turn into an opportunity tomorrow night vs. Poteet here at home (JV 5pm/Varsity 7pm).

Thanks to all of you for the continued support!

Softball Season Opener (Monday, Feb 12 vs. Natalia)

Last night your Lady Pirates traveled 5 miles down the road to Natalia to kick off the regular season. It may have been the pre-game nerves and/or the inclusion of the 3 starters who not only missed 3 scrimmages, but played last night's game without a day of practice under their belt, miscommunication and costly mental mistakes seemed to be the difference as your Lady Pirates fell to the Natalia Lady Mustangs 10-1.

Highlights from the last night's game included our only run scored by a single from Precious Carrillo who drove in Mariah Amador from 2nd that gave Lytle the lead 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of 2nd inning.

Also, Shyane Barnhill battled the entire night in the circle as she came back from multiple 2-0 or 3-0 counts to turn those obstacles into opportunities for her and her teammates.

That's the only damage done that we were able to create throughout the rest of the evening.

Going to give credit to Coach Crowley and his staff from Natalia who have a great group of young ladies that have a bright future. We thank him for the opportunity to schedule this long time rivalry that hadn't been played in almost 4 years!

Your Lady Pirates will look to regroup and refocus with a quick turnaround heading into the rest of the week. They travel to Uvalde for a 3-day tournament kicking things off with an early Thursday morning game at 9:45am vs. Hondo.

Thank you, and we appreciate the continued support and positive feedback to start this 2018 season!
